Fraud Investigations Decline

 

According to university's study, the FBI has decreased its focus on those types crimes to less then a quarter (1/4) of all complaints filed, which is at a 20-year low.

The crimes FBI typically investigates are bigger crimes. They do not pursue individual cases.

As the chart below demonstrates, from 1991-1996 the FBI investigations increased almost 50 percent. But during the new millennium, the FBI's investigations dropped 50 percent. The gradual decline began in 1997, but took a dramatic downturn in 2001.
