Rule 16 - Time Limits

§§16 is the important rule to learn because it tells you when
you're supposed to file your lawsuit before the time limits expire. It
is refered to as expedite the disposition of the action
Rule 16(a) to establish
early and continuing control so that the case will not be protracted due
to lack of management.
Rule 16(a) to discourage wasteful pretrial activities.
Rule 16(a) to improve the quality of the trial through more thorough preparation.
Rule 16(a) to facilitate settlements.
Rule 16(b) to limit the time to join other parties.
Rule 16(b) to limit the time to amend pleadings.
Rule 16(b) to limit the time to file motions.
Rule 16(b) to limit the time to complete discovery.
Rule 16(b) to limit the time to control any other thing they want, under
appropriate circumstances, of course.
Rule 16(b) to set the time for conferences before, during, and after trial,
and the trial.
Rule 16(b) to allow them to change the restrictions imposed by Rule 26
on disclosure times and discovery times.
